How to Choose your Wardrobe for your Senior Session | Larissa Elizabeth Photography

So you are finishing up that junior year and looking towards your senior year of high school, right? It might feel like it has taken for-EVER but now it’s here: it’s time to totally rock your senior photography session! I don’t know if you have been pinning ideas to your Pinterest board or have been screenshotting so many ideas already (maybe even for the last three years…) or maybe you might not have even really thought about it until now but regardless, you totally have to figure out what to wear! Don’t worry… like with every other step of this awesome experience, I totally have your back and am here to help! Here are some ideas to help you plan out an amazing wardrobe that shows off who you really are!

Tip #5: Plan on bringing pretty much everything! It will probably feel like you are packing for a trip but when in doubt, bring it! Pack up a bag or two, throw in allllll the shoes, and then just hang up all those different dresses and nice shirts that you -think- you might want to wear. Its so much better to have it and not use it then to wish you would have brought it!

Tip #4: Pick a theme! Sometimes it helps to have a word or style in mind for your session and then to pull items from your closet that go with that idea. Like, for example, maybe your word is “bold” and so any deep color shirt, those fierce heels, that awesome leather jacket, and that statement necklace totally work! Or instead, maybe your word is “classic.” You would want to bring that crisp white button up shirt, that perfect pencil skirt, your lettersman jacket, and of course that perfect red lipstick. Whatever you decide as a theme, don’t be afraid of color, pattern, or even anything that might break “the rules”… those were made to be broken anyways!!

Tip #3: Bring variety! You may be a “jeans and t-shirt” sorta person most days so it’s totally important to include that look as an option but I would also encourage you to bring some dressier options as well. Maybe consider that favorite dress or skirt and those killer heels or that button up shirt your mom loves because it brings out your eyes. One important factor is that some fancier clothing can require ironing – don’t skimp on this! Wrinkles can be a total pain and almost impossible to edit out so warm up that iron, get to it, and then hang the item on a hanger. You can use that fancy little hook in your car to keep these items hanging all the way to your shoot. Your favorite holy jeans may not need all this attention but its important to make sure that any stains or unwanted snags are maybe replaced with items without these things. Also, don’t forget about the things you wear during your sport or hobby. That jersey or that hunting jacket may be the perfect item to show off another side of you! So bottom line, bring the everyday casual, the awesome fun and fancy and all the great stuff in between!

Tip #2: Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! I am talking about necklaces, scarves, fedoras, bow ties, jackets, belts, and shoes… grab a duffel bag and just throw it all in there. Its amazing how a simple t-shirt can go from “cool” to “fricken awesome” with just the perfect necklace and heels. I love seeing all the options and then helping you add to your outfit. Sometimes we can add items to match a great location or even just to get a little more attitude out of the outfit. This is the best way to really make sure your photos totally show your personality!

Tip #1: Be yourself! This one is the MOST IMPORTANT! I totally believe that the number one most important thing to remember is to be true to yourself! Rules are made to be broken and planning out all the details can be tricky but so much fun but it really all comes down to showing the world who you are. So choose what you love and make sure that bottom line, you feel totally awesome in what you are wearing! Be brave and fearless and have fun!

Hope these tips help in deciding what to wear. I just know that we are going to totally rock your session – it’s going to be an amazing experience that you will always remember and the images we create together are going to be incredible! Let’s do this thing!!
